In this edition of Dark Visitors I am featuring the 1931 classic film "Dracula" that was directed by Tod Browning, and starred the immortal Bela Lugosi as Count Dracula. It is not a commonly known fact that Carfax Abbey was the London home that Dracula purchased through Jonathan Harker, his real estate agent. It was here that Dracula would come to meet the lovely Wilhelmina (Mina) Murray, and spread his reign of terror far beyond Transylvania. Movie adaptations of the original Bram Stoker novel combined the Asylum and Carfax Abbey. This provided a much richer environment in which to stalk Count Dracula. The most obvious example of this is in the 1992 movie "Bram Stoker's Dracula", where the vampire hunters, led by Professor Abraham Van Helsing, enter Carfax Abbey to destroy the crates containing the native soil that Dracula had brought over with him by boat from Transylvania. In this edition of Dark Visitors I am featuring a documentary called "The Haunted Boy". It tells the true story of a demon possessed boy who was the inspiration for the 1971 book "The Exorcist" written by William Peter Blatty, and the epinonimous 1973 movie, "The Exorcist", directed by William Friedkin. It's a very chilling and spooky tale. As a side note, the late Father Malachi Martin was the model for Father Lankester Merrin who is featured in both the book, and the movie. "Vampire Junction" by S.P. Somtow is a
remarkable novel. It is the story of a twelve-year old rock star, Timmy
Valentine, the idol of millions of young girls and boys, who is
actually a 2,000 year-old vampire. This book was first published in
1984. It became immensely popular and influential, and, is considered
by many to be ancestral to the Splatterpunk Movement in Gothic Literature.
"Vampire Junction" was voted one of "forty all-time greatest horror
books" by the Horror Writers Association. Somtow has written two
sequels to "Vampire Junction", they are "Valentine", and "Vanitas". To
say anymore about this cool book would spoil its impact on the
first-time reader. Safe journeys to all the fans of Dark Visitors, wherever you may be.
Brent Campbell as James (left) and Tim Parkinson as Gilbert (right)
In this edition of Dark Visitors I am featuring an incredibly entertaining Gothic, Horror movie called "All The Kind Strangers". It has an all-star cast that includes Stacy Keach, John Savage, and Robby Benson. But, the real scene stealers are Tim Parkinson and Brent Campbell who give the movie just that right kind of magical touch, and believability. One might say that "All The Kind Strangers" is like "The Hills Have Eyes" but with kids instead. You can watch the complete movie for FREE by clicking on the video widget below. Everyday is Halloween at Dark Visitors. As you have probably noticed, Damien is the mascot of Dark Visitors, so it is only appropriate for us to celebrate Halloween with his "Halloween With Damien" video from the exclusive Smiling Angel Creations video collection. "Alternative
3", is the classic conspiracy book: It was first published by Sphere
Books Ltd., of London in 1978. Here are the major claims of the book:
FACT: The Earth's atmoshpere is becoming super-heated and unbreathable. If this trend is not reversed, life on Earth is doomed.
ALTERNATIVE 1: Blast "chimneys" in the stratosphere with nuclear weapons releasing heat and pollution. Project Status: abandoned.
ALTERNATIVE 2: Relocate Earth's population in massive underground caverns drawing fresh, cool air from the soil. Project Status: abandoned.
ALTERNATIVE 3:
A bold venture into space built on revolutionary technology.
Officially-sanctioned murder, and a secret international conspiracy.
Project Status: unknown.
The
major claim of the book is that a joint United States / Soviet Union
space mission made a manned landing on the planet Mars on May 22, 1962.
That is an extraordinary assertion. This was all started by a weekly
British TV show called "Science Report". The producers of that program
were doing research on the "brain drain" in England, and quite
inadvertently stumbled upon some amazing information. They subsequently
devoted a whole show based on their findings. Hence was born the
"Alternative 3" mythos. After the original broadcast, there was an
outcry from the viewers in London, who felt terrified by the conclusions
of "Alternative 3". The British government got involved and Anglia TV
which produced the broadcast, was forced to publicly state that the
program was a hoax, in order to appease the government, and quiet down
the reactions of the British people. Shortly afterward, a book was
commissioned by Anglia TV to set the record straight. The basic issues,
according to Anglia TV, were that the "Alternative 3" broadcast was not
a hoax, and people died as a result of the revelations in the
documentary. The complete movie can be watched from the YouTube link below. Safe journeys to all the fans of Dark Visitors, wherever you may be.
